RNS-510 off eBay

Hi Guys

I currently drive a MK6 2010 GTI and i've decided i'd get the RNS-510 unit off ebay as it's pretty cheap. I am currently looking to buy this one: VW RNS 510 SAT NAV RNS510 Ver C LED DVD 16:9 Golf Jetta | eBay

Is this the newest version that i can get to date? Also if i do get the RNS-510 does the GPS integrate into my MFD like it does when it's factory fitted? Also would it be compatible with my MDI that i've already got that's factory installed.

And is everything pretty much plug and play for me?

Version D i believe is the latest version. Myself and a few other people i know of have purchased from this guy in Lithuania VW MFD3 RNS 510 passat golf Version D RNS510 LED STAR | eBay plus he has activated video in motion on his units. Delivery is normally within a week which is pretty good.

The unit is plug and play, however you may have to do some recoding via vcds to get all the MFD functions to work like directions etc.

Hmm i'm interested however i have my reservations regarding refurbed units. Was yours refurbed? If so how's everything with it?

"D" version was superseded about 6 months ago, the current unit for the Golf 6 is an "F" part number.

I bought from the Lithuanian guy also, he's got them on there now for $800 :

The one he sent me had a bubble under the screen, credit to him he sent me a replacement screen that I have since fitted to the unit and everything is fine. He offers a 6 month warranty. I would save the $600 difference and get BlueTooth fitted if I were you

Apparently all of his are 'refurbished' but mine looked pretty brand new. I have an issue with the Nav cursor being approx 100 mtrs behind my actual location so told the seller. He refunded me a portion of the money to purchase a new antenna to see if that fixed the problem but unfortunately hasn't.
I have read though that a few people have also had this problem with their units (not necessarily bought from the same guy though). I'm just waiting for a decent firmware update to download to see if that gets rid of the problem.

Well it looks like it's some sort of "luck of the draw" at play.

I seem to recall we bought our units from our Lithuanian friend around the same time!

Not meaning to rub it in ... but mine's definitely settled in @ minus 10mtrs from where it's actually positioned (on screen).


FWIW, maybe it's worth raising the issue again with our friend (if the 6 month warranty is real)!
Cause 100m is just ridiculous!

Doesn't hurt to ask (just like in Jaap74's case when I suggested it then)!


Obviously not realistic to expect a full refund (assuming he'd want you to ship it back)!
Maybe push for a heavily discounted replacement unit or something?

But suggest you pull it out the current unit and try it on say a friend's VW!

Fingers crossed, no problems on another VAG and then you can sell it to fund the replacement unit.
