The mic needs to be connected to the RNS not just he Bluetooth. If its not connected here then it won't work
Also pressing the steering wheel button won't work. You have to press in the right knob on the unit to activate voice on RNS

I can get the setup menu for voice control by pressing the top right button and it gives the tone and the help menu and asks for commands. However it only does this in the MEDIA setting IF I go to NAV and press that button nothing happens.
Should I just say NAVIGATE when I have it going as the manual is a bit vague as to which service it works in.
I sat there and did what I thought the manual said however I could have misunderstood
Will try to put some commands in in the morning

It's connected to the Bluetooth unit for that but then uses the 9w7 mic once dialed .
I think it was D units and higher that have the voice activation (but don't quote me). So you may not have the mic connected from factory as it would not have came with voice untill you upgrade the firmware. Ip only way to know is check the plug pin outs on the rear.
on my MY11 Octavia, my B version rns510 was factory fitted with a mic, and I can use voice commands with the navigation.
I later retrofitted Bluetooth and coded it to use the rns510's mic, instead of connecting another mic to the bluetooth unit. Just used the existing factory mic.
I'll check if I can voice command navigation while driving. I remember doing it before, but I forgot what firmware that was.
'B' version in the Columbus is equivalent to 'C' in RNS510, they are both LED screen versions.
I can't remember either, but I'm pretty sure once we had compatible maps installed (v5 and up) that voice command for navigation entry worked with firmware 39xx and up.
I checked mine yesterday and voice entry still works with v6 maps and 5238 firmware.
If the mic is not plugged in at all (ie only wired to the BT unit) then you wont get any commands to work at all, cant select radio, media etc it will just say, 'Pardon?' after you press the voice button. Only nav not working is a coding/compatibility issue only.
Refer to Maverick's instructions for retrofitting of mic, it has the coding instructions also:

note the byte 7 coding...bit 0 should be selected, bit 1 should be delselected. Then bits 2 and 3 should be deselected to allow voice and screen input whilst moving. Lastly bit 7 should be enabled in all recent cars that support it, this puts the navigation instructions in the MFD.
