RNS 510 Maps and Firmware upgrade

I need to get my hands on maps (V2 is fine, doesn't have to be the latest and greatest) for my RNS 510. Considering I bought the thing fair and square back in 2008, however didn't receive the maps CD/DVD (despite a massive fight with the dealer), I am very much interested in obtaining the maps without a cost. Any advice? My intention is not to directly ask for anything illegal or against the rules, I am just trying to avoid paying for something I have already paid for, but wasn't delivered by the dealer

On a similar note, with relation to the latest RNS 510 firmware that I am very interested in upgrading to, is there any more general advice? What are the main selling points for upgrading to the latest and greatest Firmware, aside from support for higher capacity SD cards - my main Firmware upgrade driver at this point in time.

Thanks in advance - from a very new forum user.

I have obtained some Whereis maps, the latest firmware, and am going to attempt to update tomorrow. Wish me luck. If all goes well, I will be able to offer very good advice on where/how to obtain RNS 510 maps at a VERY minimal cost.

disappointing that you didn't get the disc when you bought the car. when we picked up our tig a few months ago i asked before picking up the car about the discs... they stated that they don't order them when they order the car but wait till the car has arrived and ready for delivery as they know the discs will "go walkabout" if they are ordered at the same time as the car and left sitting around the dealership.. as part of the car handover they actually installed the maps whilst going over the cars features and controls and then gave me the disc before leaving.

It sounds like your experience has been far more positive than mine, it’s good when car dealers do what they’re meant to! I was pretty upset with my VW dealer, Chatswood Classic Cars, when they fitted the Sat Nav and didn’t give me a disc. I bet they sold it on Ebay for 200 bucks!

My car was delivered without the accompanying CD/DVD. I did not think to ask for this thinking it came installed on the RNS unit. I am curious if there is anyone out there who received their RNS 510 unit with the accompanying CD/DVD from their dealer?

Mine did - but then I explicitly asked for it, and it wasn't actually supplied at the same time as the car, but rather a few weeks later once the dealer had stock available.

Thanks for that. I am going to bring this up with the salesperson here and see what happens.

Adam, just one more question - What is on the CD/DVD? I am guessing it is the firmware including the maps.

    response

In the old Sat/Nav the disk needed to stay in the system. In the RNS510 this is no longer necessary & it will just take up the spot of a CD/DVD. Once it is loaded the disk is essentially a glorified coaster to the vehcile owner, however (!) you are fully entitled to it & it should be given to you. You could of course leave the disk with the dealer under the condition that they allow you to update the system a year laster or so free-of-charge
