Thanks for the answer. Must the coding be reset using Vagcom/VCDS after the operation?

Coding is only lost of you use a factory firmware image.
Modified firmware doesn't delete the coding.

Hi,
The tutorial includes a complete reinstallation of Map+Firmware on the new SSD disk.
But does anyone have tried to clone the old nonSSD on the new SSD ? It should avoid to reinstallation step.
For exemple « easeus » utility works well for that.
Regards
The partition type used is not one that is known by most (if not all) PC file system tools.
If you can find something that knows how to handle Vienna FS then maybe it will work.

Quick question regarding the used Filesystem.
I just excahnged my faulty HDD in my RNS 510 with an SSD. so far so good
After reinstallition of the firmware the HDD did not showed up in the menu any more.
here is my oartition table from the ssd:
Device Boot Start End Sectors Size Id Type
/dev/sdk1 * 63 29303819 29303757 14G 88 Linux plaintext
/dev/sdk2 29303820 43954469 14650650 7G c W95 FAT32 (LBA)
/dev/sdk3 43954470 58605119 14650650 7G 88 Linux plaintext
If i try to mount /dev/sdk1 to eg copy some Music " en block" to the ssd
mount: wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on /dev/sdk1
When i try to use fsck I get this:
fsck /dev/sdk1
fsck from util-linux 2.29.2
e2fsck 1.44.5 (15-Dec-201
ext2fs_open2: Bad magic number in super-block
fsck.ext2: Superblock invalid, trying backup blocks...
fsck.ext2: Bad magic number in super-block while trying to open /dev/sdk1
The superblock could not be read or does not describe a valid ext2/ext3/ext4
filesystem. If the device is valid and it really contains an ext2/ext3/ext4
filesystem (and not swap or ufs or something else), then the superblock
is corrupt, and you might try running e2fsck with an alternate superblock:
e2fsck -b 8193 <device>
or
e2fsck -b 32768 <device>
Found a dos partition table in /dev/sdk1
my question is , which Filesystem is used on the two Linux plaintext partions ?
Or can i just mkfs.vfat /dev/sdk1 and it will work ?
looking forward to your answer
kind regards
It's Vienna file System.
I've never heard of it outside of the rns510.
Beyond that I don't know anything more.
I'm not surprised that a Linux distro doesn't know what to do with it.

Having restored function (stuck in German lang, no sound) with old HDD and new firmware 5238, having trouble reloading to initialise for SSD swap. I read that the unit won't reload same firmware. Wondering if I enable firmware downgrade in secret menu, can I reinstall same firmware or do I physically have to downgrade or upgrade past 5238, but which version???

Yes you can reload the same version if you enable downgrade.
