Go into the hidden setup menu (if you've enabled it) and make sure you enable the system downgrade first.

Hi, I've tried a few times, tried different media and still get "SWL Error"

For a donkey like me, what is the exact timing required?

eg
enable system downgrade
turn off unit?
remove keys?

etc, etc

I did a system downgrade on my A unit yesterday afternoon. All I did was select "System Downgrade" from the hidden menu, then backed out of the menu to (for example) the radio display. Then insert your Firmware CD/DVD. The unit should commence the process.

If you can't access the hidden menu, then select "Setup" + "Eject" + "Info" buttons to force the unit into a downgrade.

I got the same SWL Error after selecting Downgrade Firmware from the setup menu and then inserting the CD.

I then re-burnt the CD at x1, selected Downgrade Firmware and inserted the newly burnt CD.

This started software load from the CD, but then I got the error that the maximum number of attempts had been reached, and to perform the "Setup" + "Eject" + "Info" reboot.

So I then pressed "Setup" + "Eject" + "Info", which rebooted the unit and the CD installed without fuss.

So I'm not really sure which method actually enabled the update of the logo.

I am going to give it a go with one of your Skoda logos but concerned after my Columbus "froze" yesterday. I drove into the dealer in Wollongong, he pressed a few buttons and all working again. It would be cool to have the startup with a picture of the car. I downloaded pictures of my various vehicles onto my TomTom startup screen and vehicle logo so whether I was in a Riley 2 1/2 Litre or on a Vincent Black Shadow, TomTom was on the case. Thanks for your efforts.

No, It's essentially an abbreviated SWL CD, and can only be loaded via the disc drive.

All the same rules that apply to burning actual RNS-510 SWL discs apply here too.

Either is fine. Just use a slow burn speed.

I cant get any of them to work. I have burned about 5 different images onto CD-R at low burn speed (12x).

I dont have access to this hidden menu, but I can hold down: Setup, Eject and Star (star button for voice control) and it goes into the Software Updater menu and starts to load but says there is an error and ejects the disc and restarts.

I got my RNS510 off ebay, and from memory it is a C revision.

Do I need to do a software update to get these to work?

Setup, Eject and Star, forces the unit to go into a FW downgrade mode when next you insert a FW disc. To do this right....
1. open car, leave keys in pocket.
2. Because you've set a downgrade up...start up the RNS by pushing the volume button in
3. When the unit has fired up and all menu options are available, press < > i (info) buttons.
4. Unit will go thru a reset stage, and will (after a few minutes) re-start.
5. When everything is up and running....insert your .iso disc that you have made from this thread.
6. Unit may report "Unable to read CD/DVD", BUT, let it go......it should go through a firmware install process.
7. Report back.
