RNS-315 voice activation

Please don't shoot me down for owning one but I have an rns 315 DAB (late 2011) in my 2012 golf (I removed an rcd 310 DAB.) My question is is it the Bluetooth module that allows voice control of the phone book or is it the 315 unit, I deactivated the 315 inbuilt B/T (vag/com) and used the existing B/T module under the seat (because of the micro phone.) I ask this because the mid 2012 315's have voice activation and wondered if it was possible on mine. Mick

Sorry mickjane2,

But the RNS-315 isn't available in Australia where most of us are from, so not many of us are familiar with it. But I can tell you that the BT unit does indeed handle it's own voice control, are you sure the mic is going to the BT unit and not the Headunit?

In my car, I've wired the microphone > RNS510 > Bluetooth module (pass-through). The bluetooth unit handles voice control (via the steering wheel button) for phone funtions (dial number, call name at home/work or on mobile, etc), whereas I need to push the voice button on the RNS510 to control music playback or enter a navigation destination. If the microphone isn't connected to the RNS then it's voice features don't work.

Very sorry readerrOr and Ryan_R for not getting back earlier to your replies (been busy). When the guy came round with the Vag/Com to get the 315 fully functional he found that I had two B/Ts one in the 315 and the original one under the seat, he said it would be better to turn of the inbuilt one (315) and use the one under the seat (because of micro phone). So that's why I asked about the voice control being part of the B/T, should I get him back and check it out or will I be wasting my hard earned dosh. Mick
