Reverse sensors question

You'll have a list of all the factory fitted codes/options in the service manual and this info is also located in the boot floor.

It will look something like this:



This sticker shows lots of info about that vehicle - it may not be exactly the same but gives you a good guide of the type of thing you're looking for.

All you have to do is decode the 3 digit codes to work out all the options your vehicle had fitted at the factory.

The engine code for the vehicle above is BWA and the transmission code is JLW along with the paint code under the engine number LB9A.

If you want to know what all the other option codes are from 3 down then type them into VW/Audi/Seat/Skoda Option Codes Decoder. These Option Codes will tell you what was fitted to the vehicle when it came from the factory

When I took my car in for an update to the maps and version update (after 4 years), the dealer mucked something up and told me that a "control unit" needed replacing. I was still getting the beeps but the on screen image on my rns510 had disappeared. Cue a couple of weeks later when the part arrived from Sydney, they fixed it and all was good.

Just saying this as another possibility to consider for your scenario.

Turns out they fitted non genuine sensors and it does not have the functionality. I argued with the sales manager that we were mislead that the sensors are the same as the standard despite being non genuine parts. Too bad for me though.... nothing they can do now.

I know someone who had the same thing happen.
I have a VW with the parking sensors displaying on the screen
They have a Skoda with just parkin sensors no display.

The difference is that mine has what they call "Optical Parking System (OPS)" what the Skoda has is just aftermarket parking sensors
You'll find when discussing with the dealer that they never offered you OPS they only offered you parking sensors.
Unfortunately (and i really feel for you) there isn't much you can do.

Lesson learnt: If your looking at buying a VW/Skoda request the Optical Parking System not just parking sensors. If you request OPS and they only provide parking sensors then they have to fix it.

Id be taking it up with Skoda Aus. The fact is that a dealer is fitting non-genuine accessories and likely charging genuine price (unless it's specifically written into your contract that it's non-genuine). Where do you stand with warranty then if there is ever an issue??? No other dealer is going to want to touch it and Skoda Aus certainly won't warranty the aftermarket sensors.

It wouldn't be the first time a dealer has tried to cut corners and pocket the cash.

It's actually a very common practice most dealerships do it in some form or another. If anything goes wrong with it the responsibility is with the dealership who fitted it (or in turn the original manufacturer).

I am sure it is. But even though it may be common practise in the industry, if they're not going to have the same features you'd think the sales guys ought to explain that it's not going to have the same options as the OEM part.

Whether it is fitted at the factory or the dealer has no difference to functionality if it's OEM. When you buy a new car with an option I think most people would expect that OEM/genuine parts were going to be used irrespective of where that part was fitted.

Same as when you take it to the dealer for service you expect genuine parts/oils to be used.

This is what I said before, they don’t sell it advertising that it's OEM. You request parking sensors and they provide them (or ad them in to sweeten the deal). There is nothing which states that everything provided in a new car has to be OEM.

That’s why I said if you’re buying make sure you specify what you want, in this circumstance OPS. If you have requested the OEM option and then they fit aftermarket that’s when you have a case, otherwise they have fulfilled their obligations.
Yes it sucks and to a point some may consider it deceit, but they aren't breaking any rules.

They aren't breaking any rules but putting the onus on the consumer to understand every acronym from multiple manufacturers is poor form. A dealer who wants to build rapport and a loyal customer base should offer aftermarket as an inferior, cheaper option only if it has less functionality than oem as in the case of ops.

I spoke to the manager, expressed my disappointment and told him I won't be back and if I buy another Skoda it'll be from elsewhere.

I won't lose sleep over the sensors. They work as far as beeps go. Just feel a bit mislead. Meh.
