    Reverse camera prob

I fitted the rear emblem reverse camera to my Golf R some time ago now, but I finally got my hands onto a VCDS cable and programmed the RNS510 byte3 bit 5 (from memory, but it is highlighted as "Backup camera (low) without control module installed") for the RVC, and it doesn't work
So, what I do see when I toggle that bit is an icon shows up next to the OPS mute icon on the bottom right of screen when going into reverse, when I press that button I get a black screen with arrows on it to minimise/maximise the fully black area.
I was under the impression the camera image came up automatically? (and I take it there is no OPS graphic when selecting the rear camera?)

Also, not sure if this is a result of my fiddling, but I see in the vag com scan log a "02873- Control module for backup camera j 7772 no signal/communication" under my navigation scan, buy I didn't get the control module one, just the one to plug into the back of the RNS?

Anyone have one not fitted that we can test whether it is my camera or coax cable or programming?

My camera certainly pops up when selecting reverse, and the unlocking works properly with the handle & remote. I definitely tapped an always on power source & tapped the reversing light. My RNS is running the latest f/w avail here or on vwgolf.net.au.

You need to set the backup camera type to low, not high. High expects the control module which does the bendy lines when you turn the steering wheel.
Sound like you have the basic camera module which does not need the control module to work.

But I have ticked the "Backup camera (low) without control module installed" option... does anyone else have this one and do you have to press the on screen button to show it?? I was fiddling a bit here and there after not having much luck with just ticking this option, maybe it was my subsequent fiddling that threw this logged error, or maybe it is a generic error related to both the control module version and the direct into RNS version when the system doesn't detect a video signal, who knows really, having not seen this working I don't know what to expect.

If you are getting that error in a current VCDS scan, check in the canbus gateway (address 19) for installed modules and make sure the backup camera control module is not showing as installed. If it is, disable it.
If that is not a current error then you'll have to check wiring continuity which is a bit of a pain.

Yeah, I checked the canbus gateway 19 this morning, as I saw an image on the web about the active camera module showing up there, but I only have 3 bytes with nothing really configurable in them (memory not so good to give you exact details).

Check the installation list for canbus and if camera module isn't selected is check and reseat the 26 pin multimedia connector in the back of the head unit.
Make sure the locking arm goes all the way flush.

I had the same problem and at last found it was, as karmold states above, the locking arm on the connector was not all the way home.

Its often the simple things that throw you

You lost me, read your post again. I am confirming what you say about the "26 pin multimedia connector in the back of the head unit".
