    Reverse Cam on RCD-510 - brightness/quality issues?

    Hi Guys

I have had a RVC retro-fitted on my RCD-510, and find that the quality is quite low compared to other cars.
Also the brightness is very low, is not light-sensitive, and the adjustments on the screen do not function.

The fitter claims that this is due to the unit not being the GPS version, the resolution will be low and you cannot control the brightness.

Does anyone else have a RVC on there RCD? and how is it?

Also I do not have the guiding lines, just the image. Can this be added in aftermarket?

    Cheers

The image controls (brightness/contrast, etc) work ok on my RNS510 (both RNS and camera were self retrofitted)

The guidelines also show up but don't move to follow the steering wheel. This is not available for the Golf, only some of the bigger VW's via an extra module.

from what I see on youtube videos mine works very similar in terms of brightness and photosensitivity....mine is tho factory installed with rcd but am looking to change to RNS (still thinking if 1000 euros is worth the features).

I have a factory installed RVC. From memory, the brightness cannot be adjusted. All you can do is tinker with the brightness of the display itself.

It is generally less bright compared to others I have used, mainly due to having only 1 reverse light. I have the LED tails and the reserve light is even smaller. I find the brightness ok, except if there are no other light sources, such as in the country.

I have exactly the same experience as XTC838 on my factory fitted RVC and RCD510. Pretty good image most of the time except very low light scenarios. I do notice minor interence lines scrolling down the screen when the camera is activated but they are barely noticeable.

Are you using a genuine VW reverse camera or a third market one with the adapter for the RCD510?

Mine was retrofitted too but pretty good and quality is identical to a factory installed Passat camera I've driven...

Regarding the guidelines, there's a special part that needs to be present in your car for it to work. It needs to "talk" to your steering wheel or something. Someone who works at VAG explained it to me but can't remember now.

I had a RVC and RCD510 retro-fitted to my Tiguan about 2 months ago. According to the guy who installed the RCD & RVC, the RVC camera is genuine parts and the head unit is Bosch RCD510 made in Portgual. I also found the image is dark on the screen and it's hard to see especially during day time. I've already adjusted the brightness to the maximum but it didn't help. I've started giving up on the RVC and switch back to the OPS, because the RVC is not useful to me.

I'm not sure if it's to do with the unit / camera or it's the quality you get if use RVC on RCD510. Some people suggested to switch RNS510 (or the Chinese clone ANS510), but seems it's a waste as it's only 2 months old.

Anyone had the experience to share?

Possibly the system hasn't been told it's there.

If so the dealer should take care of it for you — can also be done with VCDS.
