Replacing RNS 510 with RCD 330+

Has anyone out there seen a solution to getting the red graphics theme onto an RCD330 B running Unix OS?

So I had the infamous battery drain problem tonight, leaving me stranded! A quick taxi home to get the gf's car so we could drive back and give the Golf a jump start, now it's safely in my garage. Not what I expected on a 2011 build MY12 car. Checked my CAN Gateway revision, sure enough it's a 7N0 907 530 H...dammit

Are any/all of the new version AliExpress or eBay CAN gateways out of China OK? Any recommended suppliers locally?

I don't think a newer canbus gateway is the answer.
The issue with newer head units not going to sleep was happening with gateways from around 2008 and earlier.
Certainly not with a 7N0.
Is it the original battery? Might just be on it's last legs...

Yep that's what I thought also, however it seems to not be the case. From what I can find out, gateway revisions after K are generally alright for these radios. Mine being H, is too old.

Car is on the third battery (second was a dud).

It is drawing current with the ignition off, and can be turned on with the car off, unlike the RCD510 it replaced. The car has a little bit of charge on it now, just about to go for a bigger drive to top it up. I've been pulling the radio fuse in the engine bay fuse block when parked up to preserve what battery charge I have.

I hedged my bets and ordered a couple of different revision gateways from AliExpress overnight, also to see what arrives first! So when they arrive I'll replace my exisiting one and see what happens. My assumption is, if the radio can't be turned on with the ignition off then all will be good. Some of the newer CAN features maybe a nice bonus

The gateway allows the stereo to be turned on even without the key, but it should then shut it off after 30mins.
You can test this with a multimeter.

I tested it first thing this morning before disconnecting the battery to put a trickle charger on. The RCD330 is able to be turned on well past the 30 minute cutoff in my car. Turned it off and got the multimeter out, sure enough it was drawing standby current.

After all this, I think it is most probably gateway related in my case. I'm just surprised my car (July 2011 build) has such an old gateway revision as I thought it would be newer. Maybe I shouldn't be. Always fun mucking around with these cars, learn something new everytime.

Will update once a newer revision gateway is fitted and advise if that fixes it.

You can still turn it on even if the car has been off for more than 30mins, but it should then turn itself off after 30mins of being on.

It may well be a problem with a faulty gateway, and swapping it will certainly be able to prove that.
But the original battery drain issue was with 1K0907530 gateways. They run much older software.
This part was superceded by 7N0907530 1/11/2009.
7N0907530H was introduced 1/2/2011 which was then superceded to 7N0907530M 1/2/2012.

I've bought mine from eBay and my unit had all the bugs related to sound personalization (and also the beeps at ignition). I've contacted the seller and he has sent me another firmware (yet the 5314 version) that seems to have corrected all the issues. He has sent me a link to a file on google drive and has told me that I should not install it on any other radio (not sure if he was referring to any other unit or merely to a different model). It's a .tar file that has to be put on a thumb drive and flashed onto the unit. I can send the link to anyone on a PM.

have a pixel 2 xl, no intention of owning any apple products.

i seem to have newer firmware (5406) but i have no siri audio when using carplay. Android auto works fine, however

edit: managed to get it from the seller, all is good now (other than the volume issue after using siri).
