Question Rear Parking Sensors (Dealer Fitted)

My father just took delivery of a new Golf mk VI 118TSi. It included dealer fitted rear parking sensors. We would be interested to hear from anyone who has had their rear parking sensors fitted by a dealer. Are you happy with them? Do they work as you had expected and as the dealer had indicated?

My Golf has the Park Assist option (obviously factory fitted) so my parking sensors provide a progressive audio and visual indication which easily provides enough feedback for me to judge the distance to stationary objects quite accurately (as one would expect).

However, the dealer fitted package on the father's new Golf provides one beep (no visuals) when an object is approximately 50cm away... that's it! There is no progressive beeping which gets faster as you get closer to the object... nothing!

We are of the opinion that this is a complete waste of $700 and is totally unusable. What is the experience of others with this particular option?

Most after market parking sensors are no where near as good as factory, just dont seem to give the same readings as the factory fit ones, but saying that I have never seen a kit that only gives one beep at the preset 50cm distance, I would take it back and have it checked, you should get your one beep tone when selecting reverse and the the progressive warning should tone until you are 50cm away and then they should go constant.................VW..............

Yes we have taken this back to the dealer (of course). The dealer insists that this is a genuine VW option (not after market) and is "looking into it".

The after market kits we have seen are much better than this at about half the price. Needless to say that Dad is kicking himself for not ordering the Park Assist option which is factory fitted and covers both front and rear as well as the assisted parking feature for only another $800 or so.

This is why I have posted here. I just can't believe that VW would offer such a poor solution for such a high price. It just does not make any sense. Does anyone else here have dealer fitted rear parking sensors?
