    RDC510 for MK5 Upgrade

Hi all, just wanted to clarify a things.

I've currently got an 06 Golf MK5, and am thinking of upgrading the head unit to the RCD510.
Already read many posts about the install and such, including the need for a new canbus L revision module, however I've also read that there is a simple bypass via the fusebox.
(more info here: A tested and proven quick fix for rcd510/rns510 power drain - page 1 - How to Guides / Troubleshooting - MK5 Golf GTI )

My question is, if I were to do a DIY Install of the RCD510, using the fusebox bypass, would I still need to use VCDS/Recoding to get it to work?

    Many thanks!

Never done the bypass. Usually just replace the canbus and recode. You will also need a aerial adapter for the new unit.

If i'm not mistaken, you only code to update your cars electronics to work with the new canbus module? ie; If someone already had a compatible canbus L revision module, would they need coding to make the head unit work?

Depends on whats installed on the car as you code it depending on right or left drive..2 or 4 door and then code in what equipment it has...like dsg, xenon lights etc etc.

No you don't need to code anything, if you already have a compatible canbus module, then the RCD510 unit will work. Only if you're installing the RVC then you have to code the unit.

I don't recommend to anyone do the fusebox fix, your radio stations will need to be tuned in everytime you want to listen the radio.

I've been tossing up doing this too but i dont really want to do the canbus thing so i have been considering one of these.

I was thinking of getting one for my R36 as well so that the phone button works on the steering wheel as well as displaying the phone information in he mfd but at this stage it works fine.
There have been some relatively cheap rcd510's for sale lately which is making me even more eager to do it

Just swap the canbus for a new version you can buy for cheap from ebay, do not fear: it's super easy. But yeah you may need VCDS coding to swap the CANbus modules (to code the right installation list in there.... UNLESS the CANbus module comes from a car EXACTLY THE SAME as yours, except with upgraded canbus)
