RCD510 screen brightens then dulls

My commute is about 100km each way. When it is dark you can see the screen on the RCD510 brightens suddenly, not like a bright like but enough to divert my attention from the road ahead, and then slowly dulls to where it was. Has anyone seen this on theirs?

yup - on the RNS510.
i noticed it since firmware 4020.
it also does auto day/night in nav/map mode - regardless of light position.

VW don't seem to have a fix for this. Apparently, in cold countries the screen gets a shot of power to keep it going. Victoria yes, Central Qld, I don't think that it is needed. As I stated before, it is a safety issue. They gave me an earlier version that doesn't brighten but have nothing to offer to rectify mine, new or otherwise.
The dealer has seen it on a passat but obviously doesn't do a lot of night driving for it be a bother to him.

All fixed. They gave me a new one.
