I can now happily say however that it wasn't IOS4.2 as such, it was the upgrade process that didn't complete wholly. It seems I still needed to validate the Iphone which I wasn't able to do when initially upgrading. Once I got to work I plugged it in and ITunes went online to validate.

Suffice to say that the validation worked and afterwards the MDI was able to read the music off the IPhone.
While we are bagging Apple (which I will do anytime of day), isn't it nice that your device has to connect to Apples server and do little checks just to let you play your music.

You were however I was responding to the question about how long it would take VW to release a fix.

Yet another reason to avoid the iphone, absolutely ridiculous that you have to reactivate your phone after a software update, link it to an itunes account and on top of this you have to use a valid sim.

Very nice of Apple to allow you to do that.

I have MDI, RNS510 and 9W7 Bluetooth with an iPhone 4 running iOS 4.2

I will test out this tomorrow and post my findings.

I had a call on bluetooth on the way home tonight, so I know that is working perfectly without any issues. But Music I am not too sure about.

You'll be able to stream music etc driect from your phone without having to use the MDI. You won't be able to change song or anything like that though.

Love the Android - iPhone pic! Too funny. However, it isn't only Apple that is finding Flash a CPU/power hungry application. You'll find other Smartphones energy consumption and performance being sorely tested with its implementation. Anyways, this is probably way off-topic! Soz.

PS I use PC and Mac, iPhones, iPods, USBs, whateveas.... it don't really matter as long as it works and it floats ya boat.

Bit odd, but nothing that annoying.
I am also getting this same problem, but I have worked out that it is the iphone having two output devices to send music through, MDI and bluetooth, and sometimes, depending on which one connects first, it outputs music to the bluetooth instead of the MDI.

If you go into "music" on the iphone it states that it is using an iPhone accessory, and you can change which accessory it should use. Change to MDI and the musci plays again.

Any way you can default it to MDI for output?
