    RCD510 disassembly (front fascia)

Hey guys, was in the process of putting a screen protector on my head unit and things went a bit wrong so need to remove it. Long story short need to remove the screen protector, but because the size was slightly too big for the screen (and I didn't trim) the edges and corner got tucked underneath the plastic trim in front of the screen (piano black shiny plastic)

Using the standard tape pull method does not get the protector off. Was wondering if anyone has experience taking one of these apart or the front portion anyway, i would simply need to get the plastic fascia a little bit away from the screen so i have a bit of clearance to get at the actual edge of the screen protector to remove it.

    Regards,
    Michael

    See http://www.vwwatercooled.org.au/foru...diy-60984.html

I'm not sure the facia and screen are actually meant to come apart. I would be very careful. I'd have a close look at the screen once it has been removed from the head unit to see if it is easy to remove but have not done it myself.

I would maybe suggest removing the screen using JohnC's excellent instructions for the RNS510 (not sure how different the RCD510 construction is but probably not that different), then very carefully removing the film using plastic tweezers to grab the film, and a hair dryer on warm to soften up the adhesive if required to loosen it.

I would suggest using electric or gaffer tape and the pull method again!

Taking screen off just to get at the edge is definitely like cracking a walnut with a sledge hammer!
