Hi all
I have been reading and searching, trying to find out the answer to my issue, but I am very confused. I have spoken with my dealer, but the answer I get is different from posts that I have read here. So my problem:
I have purchased a new 2011 Golf 118TSi with factory bluetooth. I love the car, which is for my wife, but I've been sneaking a drive in when ever I can.
On delivery, my dealer told me that the "star" icon on the 3 button roof cluster was used for voice activation. So after I left, I pressed the button, and nothing. The other two buttons work; service and information. The phone button on my steering wheel mutes my radio, which I like. My owners manual tells me exactly what the dealer told me at delivery, that the star button is for voice activation. I have since rang my dealer, and they have now told me that I need to purchase the RNS510 to get voice activation! I have then seen on the net that plenty of people have voice activation working with an RCD510. I have not seen any evidence that Voice Activation works with an RCD310 (which is what I have). I think that my factory bluetooth is a 9W7, it's just the standard factory job.
I'm happy to upgrade to the RCD510 if I get voice activation, but not keen on splashing for the RNS510. At the moment, I need to navigate through 300 contacts to find certain names (I have about 600 contacts on my phone). This seems crazy to me. Does anyone have any experience with the 9W7 and an RCD510 or 310?
Thanks in advance for any help.

I have a new T5 transporter with RCD 310 and Malfunction steering wheel, I have voice activation on my steering wheel this works, and I have star button in the roof and this allso works for voice activation. This was all fitted at the factory. I am unsure why yours is not working as it should. Don't shell out for a new radio, yours should be working as it should, get them to fix it.
Thanks for the info Rev. Assuming you have the 9W7, it's great to hear you have this working with the RCD310.
