    Rcd310

I know it's obvious but without pulling the unit out of the box in my shed, I've stumbled for a moment when thinking how to enter the PIN, when nothing is in the RCD310 owner's manual.

If I understand the question, you need to press the red _ under the corresponding digit until you get the code right.
ie you press the left-most _ button 3 more times to get a 4, then press the next one along 8 times to get an 8 etc. Then press the last _ button on the right when the code is entered correctly.

Knowing that the picture wasn't that clear, I still didn't feel the need to explain it more, to most people the instructions wouldn't probably be needed, once you see the screen infront of you, but yeah, you're right and very well explained. You instructions are almost an idiot proof. Thans, for make it clear.

Anyway, somebody should come to pick up the RCD310, that I have (actually 2 of them, from our Tiguans) in the shed. Well, he didn't come. At least I had an oportunity to eject the CD that I forgot to take out when changing the unit in my daughter's Tig. She was happy to have the CD back.

Off topic, but I bought a few BMW units when I had my 325i and both of them came with a free CD. The mix disc of Lady Gaga remixes, Russian music and Eurotrance was a great gift from the Slovakian seller.

How do you get the code for a RCD-310?

I got the code for my RDC310 from the dealer who delivered the vehicle. Some are in the national VW database so you can ring any dealer and give them the VIN of the vehicle and they should be able to give you the code. Others for some reason aren't in the database and can sometimes be on the dealers own system (which happened in my case).

I believe you'll only need the code if you're installing the stereo into another vehicle. I thought I was going to need it when I disconnected the battery, but surprisingly it didn't ask for the code when I connected back up and turned the car on - stereo came to life without need to enter a code.

Anyway it's best to get your code and keep it in a safe place for later in case you need it.

I've also been told that sometimes the code is linked to the serial number of the stereo (and not the VIN), so if you're installing a unit make sure you take a photo or write down the details before you install it otherwise you may have to pull apart the dash again to get the details off the unit... saves doing the job twice

Just found out that the code given to me by the dealer was wrong

They gave me 5 digit code and the RCD310 needs a 4 digit code.

The dealer then pointed me in the direction of a company "go-tech" that may be able to help but they charge $22 to give you the PIN.

Anyone know how to get the pin otherwise?

The ACCC. It is your radio. You have not leased it from VW, and VW should have provided you with the code. For VW not to give you the code would be like buying a car and then having to pay extra just to get the keys to drive it away.

I bought the car with 3,000km on the clock. Getting the run around from the VW dealer who delivered the car and also VWA who said talk to the dealer.

I should be able to read it as long as it is fitted in your car. But, I guess it's not.
