I got the code for my RDC310 from the dealer who delivered the vehicle. Some are in the national VW database so you can ring any dealer and give them the VIN of the vehicle and they should be able to give you the code. Others for some reason aren't in the database and can sometimes be on the dealers own system (which happened in my case).

I believe you'll only need the code if you're installing the stereo into another vehicle. I thought I was going to need it when I disconnected the battery, but surprisingly it didn't ask for the code when I connected back up and turned the car on - stereo came to life without need to enter a code.

Anyway it's best to get your code and keep it in a safe place for later in case you need it.

I've also been told that sometimes the code is linked to the serial number of the stereo (and not the VIN), so if you're installing a unit make sure you take a photo or write down the details before you install it otherwise you may have to pull apart the dash again to get the details off the unit... saves doing the job twice

Just found out that the code given to me by the dealer was wrong

They gave me 5 digit code and the RCD310 needs a 4 digit code.

The dealer then pointed me in the direction of a company "go-tech" that may be able to help but they charge $22 to give you the PIN.

Anyone know how to get the pin otherwise?

The ACCC. It is your radio. You have not leased it from VW, and VW should have provided you with the code. For VW not to give you the code would be like buying a car and then having to pay extra just to get the keys to drive it away.
