I recently found and had installed a RCD510 into my Mk6 Golf TSI. All is well but the steering wheel controls for the track change and track information in the MFD no longer work. Volume control still works fine.
My understanding is that there are three versions of the RCD510 and this is a "A" or early version.
I earlier bought a newer version of the RCD510 and all worked fine but the CD drive was faulty and had to be retruned (that's another story).
My theory as to why it does not work is that the newer MK6 cars use "BAPS" to communicate the track info etc to MFD and steering controls. Because this radio was "born" before "BAP" was prevalent, it does not use that communication method hence why the details do not appear.
In theory setting the change back (untick BAPS) as shown below would allow the extra information to appear. I believe the settings for steering wheel control must be "on" already as the version "C" radio worked fine.
Of course the easy option is to get the version "C" radio but believe me this issue has been going on for months and not sure my wife would "wear" another radio, the last new "c" radio was faulty and took me three months to get the money back through PAYPAL AU
What do people think, is it worth me spending another $60 to get the VAGCOM connected and hopefully get full functionality back? (see pictures in link below)
ps all this is much harder in NZ as we do not have any spare RCD510's floating around
