    RCD 510 3C8 035 190 C or 3C8 035 195 F and 9w7 BT compatibility.

    Hi!

I've a my2010 Tig and I'd like to change the RCD 310 with a RCD 510 also adding a 9w7 BT module, but I've read on various forum that there's some problem with old versions of RCD 510 and recent 9w7 like scrambled phone numbers, audio coming only from let side speakers, no way to make call from RCD 510, no way to view song names and other music info, etc...

Since the 9w7 that I've found are at least 7P6 035 730 J I'd like to know if anyone is using this version of 9w7 with an RCD 510 version 3C8 035 190 C or 3C8 035 195 F and is all good.

I know that many of you are using RCD 510 5K0 035 190 A or B, does it have RDS?

    Let me know.

    Best regards.

I've done this retrofit in a MY11 Tiguan and amost did my head in trying to figure out if the thing would work. Unless someone has those exact model numbers working in their car you're not going to know for 100% sure (and possibly not even then).

What I can say is try and purchase BT and RCD from around the same manufacture date and you should be pretty right. I believe most of the compatibility issues come when you install the latest BT unit into an older car and not all the features are supported in the RCD firmware.

If it helps at all here's the details from autoscan in my car:

    Component: Radio RCD510 050 0207
    Part No SW: 5K0 035 190 A HW: 5K0 035 190 A

    Component: TELEFON H09 2730
    Part No SW: 7P6 035 730 F HW: 7P6 035 730 F

    I do get RDS with the RCD510 5K0 035 190 A.

The other thing I've done is hook up a reverse camera with mine - you have to get a RCD510 unit which has this input for the RVC 26 pin connector if you want this function. These RCD510 units usually cost a little more but it's a whole lot less hassle than having to buy another head unit later when you decide you want this feature.

Lastly if you have a red MFD (I'm guessing your 2010 Tig will be white though so you should be OK), then you'll have to do some further investigation if you want to get your steering wheel buttons working to accept/end calls. Red MFD won't necessarily be compatible with the latest BT units so you may only be able to work the phone from the RCD510 and not the steering wheel/MFD.

Just a note of caution for anyone reading this thread with earlier models.

Lastly good luck and please post back an update with your experience.

First of all, thank you for the information.

Do you know how can I find the manufacture date of a RCD 510 and BT module based on serial number/part number? The older BT module I can find is a 7P6 035 730 J, while for the RCD 510 maybe I can find a 5K0 035 190 A like yours, but I don't know if the BT will be too new...

Fortunately my Tig has white MFD so I'll be able to use the steering wheel buttons.

I don't mean to hijack my own thread, but I saw that you've done some retrofit that I'm also interested to do on my Tig, I'll be post some questions on the respective threads.

    Thanks.

Generally the part number will have the version as the last letter i.e. A, B, C, D, etc with A being the first revision. So for example the 5K0 035 190 B would be a later revision than 5K0 035 190 A. Finding out what the differences are is another thing entirely. I have not found this type of information available anywhere on the internet - you would have to go back to the manufacturer/factory to find this sort of information out.

I bought my RCD510 from someone that pulled it out of a new vehicle (swapped out for an aftermarket Sat Nav). So I just bought a current model 9w7 to go with this. In my case it worked fine.

I would recommend trying to get the latest/current model of both RCD and BT if you can as these will most likely be the most compatible with the latest phones i.e. iphone5 etc. Some people with earlier BT units have reported compatibility issues with late model phones .

As you've already found there's a heap of information here on various threads so you'll often find your answers from searching/reading the existing threads.

It's good to be prepared and do your research but at some point you'll have to take a leap of faith and buy some bits. If you can I'd see if you can buy the BT and RCD from the same place (ideally locally) so that if you do have any issues then you've got someone to go back to - particularly if they're a reputable seller and say it's going to work/be compatible. If you buy the bits separately it'll cost more in freight and you're taking more of the risk as far as compatibility goes.

    RCD 510 3C8 035 190 C or 3C8 035 195 F and 9w7 BT compatibility.

FWIW I've finally done the retrofit indicated subject of the topic and all good so far: I've installed a RCD 510 3C8035195F year 2013 manufactured by Delphi and a VW Bluetooth KIT 7P6035730L and all is working flawless with no scrambled phone book or anything.

    Cheers.

Good to hear that it all worked out OK. As I said if you keep all your equipment around the same age you should have the best chance of them working together. It's when you start mixing old and new that you start running into compatibility issues.
