I've seen similar issues covered, but usually relating to older model MK5s. I've got a MY09 Golf GT that came with an RCD 300 and have purchased an RCD 510 to swap in. Noticed on carsales is that it seems almost all the Golf GTs came with the RCD300 as standard. Wonder why not an RCD 310?

Anyway, I've noticed that in older MK5s, or when swapping older model head units (ie. RCD300) for newer ones the Canbus gateway needs to be replaced in order to prevent battery drain. My car is a fairly recent build.

Have any of you with newer MK5s had to replace their Canbus gateways?

Also, should steering wheel controls still work? Or will I need some Vagcom work?
