Practicality of RCD/RNS510 Touchscreen

Hi Guys,

I am thinking about upgrading my RCD310 in my Polo to a RCD510 or RNS510. Now the major problem is convincing my fiancée about the touchscreen. She likes the tactile sensation you get from a button.

My questions is, how practical is the touchscreen to use as compared to a unit with buttons?
Has anyone had any problems?
How responsive is the touchscreen?

I've had no issues with the touch screen on the RNS-510.

Having said that it's not that sensitive when touching when making a selection which is good and bad. Good that it won't change if it's accidentally brushed by a hand or finger and bad that you do have to make a deliberate and sustained touch on the area of the screen when making a selection.

Don't worry about the touch screen as it works well and hence it is produced for 100,000s of VW,skoda and audis. Your decision ultimately depends if you want navigation or not.

Nothing wrong with the touch screen itself, but the interface is poorly designed, too slow, and rather dull aesthetically.

Not really a worth while upgrade in my opinion...

It lifts the look of the interior heaps, better than the crappy blue dot-matrix display and cheap silver buttons of the second generation and more basic headunits IMO.

It also acts as a good media centre when adding bluetooth and ipod etc and the 2din screen helps you navigate phonebook & songs with ease.

Keeping it simple is the key, have a play with a few after market HU's and you'll see how poor some interfaces can be.

I agree after installing the skoda kit in my 2008 125 Passat Wagon with the RCD510. The ability to dial numbers on the numeric touch display is great. Happy as Larry with the set up.

I love mine (only had it a few days), but I must +1 to the sensitivity thing, even with the ACC in Comfort on my Golf R, I often find myself having to pause for a second or two if I'm going over rough ground as you need to be pretty accurate with where you're touching (ie, often end up in a wrong sub-menu, etc if you don't hit the right area exactly)

You'll get used to it, just have to hold your hand more steady.
