    What was in the original you pulled out You should have put it back to protect the circuit as it was.
    Appreciate the help mate, the original had a 15amp for the rear windscreen wiper and a 20amp for the cigarette lighter both off which are in the piggy back...it's the other fuse that sits in line with the wire connector that have 20amps fuses

    Understand that a fuse is put in to protect the car from the accessory not the other way around.

    So if you put a 20amp fuse in a circuit that should have a 5 and the accessory shorts The 20 amp probably wont blow Just get hot and start a fire. If you have a 5 in it will blow and stop the thing from happening.

    If it didnt matter we could use 4 inch nails for fuses. It does matter and thats why you dont

    Probably wont happen with a camera but the same should be applied to all circuits so as to prevent problems

    Hey all, just wondering about the following as I'm looking to install mine soon.
    Which would be BETTER?

    Scenario 1:
    I use what Hillbilly has used - the blade fuse tap thing and I match the fuse AMP rating to what I can find on a CURRENT used fuse. (I have a tester)

    Scenario 2:
    I use a tester to find a blank fuse with the right power for ACC and BATT.
    My issue here is I don't have a multimeter so how do I know which AMP FUSE to use?

    Is it better to grab a multimeter and learn to use it or will the tester thing work?

    The tester thing I have looks like a soldering iron and has a light bulb in the middle.

    On another note - do you guys drill holes to attach the ground/earth section or how do you guys normally attach it?

    Either way works

    Depends on what the make of car is.

    In my case a VW wich is fairly highly computer controlled so was better to slot into unused fuse sockets.

    If you have your "solder iron" tester you just go along the spare sockets and find a live one withe the IGN off. Thats your Yellow

    Then turn ign on and find a different one. With the tester still there turn IGN off Use the one that turns off with the key Thats your red.

    Somewhere close on the body will probably be a screw into metal use that with a ring connector under it for the earth.

    Make sure it is earthed to the body as some cars have a metal bit that my be attached to plastic which wont work

    I use the bolt on the RHS of the photo as an earth. It holds the dash assembly onto the bulkhead.

    I just use a testlight to find an empty fuse holder and solder a wire onto a spade fuse (amperage is irrelevant as I'm just using it as a connector). I then put an inline fuse further down the wire of the correct amperage. You work out what size fuse you need by looking at the current draw of what you are powering & add a small overhead. As Hillbilly said, you'll only need a 2 amp for a dashcam or similar.

    If he is using a PM he will be using the ciggy socket on it and the plug on the camera cable which has a 2 amp fuse built in and so you dont actually need a line fuse. Presuming he has a Blackvue camera which is what we have been talking about originally

    How do you solder to a blade fuse I an solder pretty good but have never got it to stick using electronic grade solder which I used to use repairing circuit boards. I found it easier to buy the Jaycar ones

    Even though I'm going through an accessory 12v socket I added another inline fuse because I had a handful of fuse holders & it made me feel better.

    The same with soldering wire onto a fuse - I must have a few dozen spade fuses lying about & want to use them up. I paired back the plastic a bit to give it some area to attach to and painted some solder prep acid on then it soldered OK
