can anyone help me??
my mkiv has an aftermarket JVC head unit which is all wired correctly. The reception on fm radio is average. has anyone had similar problems? any ideas how to fix the problem?
can anyone help me??
What's it like on AM?
If it's still bad, have a look at the actual antenna base, it's quite possibly earthing through the base. It's what mine is doing, I just can't be bothered fixing it yet!

When you say wired correctly, are you aware of the canister that is in line with the aerial that gives power to the inbuilt booster? It will be behind the head unit and have a yellow (i'm pretty sure) wire coming out of it, into the loom. One end of the canister has a co-axial plug on it, which goes to the aerial, the other end has a co-axial cable on it with goes to the head unit. I'm pretty sure all this is correct, though it is off the top of my head.
I too have bad reception, with the canister connected. I got an after market antenna which uses the rear demisters, and its still no good. I have also tried 12v boosters, in various conifigurations, to no avail. I have concluded that the culprit, in my case, is the tuner in the after market head unit itself.
yeah that sounds right. i'm waiting on an ipod adapter for my head unit so i'll survive with dodgy radio instead of creating headaches. thanks for your help.
I find I get better reception without the booster. It is a strange thing it appears to only pass 1 of the 2 lines though to the HU.
