We already have a Universal Serial Bus and that doesnt do it as thats what this thread is about.

That's kind of the point. USB has been around for nearly 20 years, so there is no excuse not to use it. VW choose not to and it is a source of constant annoyance, other manufacturers do employ the use of USB and it works perfectly.

Wouldnt be able to give you all the controls though as not enough pins to transmit the info as per Midi

USB has only 4 pins and none for audio so you would have to engineer a whole new plug which would probably be called something else.

I've only seen the latest gen cars/headunits work with just the USB cable for iPhone/iPod. Alpine units and whatnot have been using the dock connector for ages. Don't forget MDI was designed 4-5 years ago. It'll be a different story with the cars based on Golf Mk7 Tech
