Plan to replace RCD 310 by RNS 510 in 2011 Tiguan

    Hi,

Before I order the RNS 510, I just want to make sure is it that simple I can replace it by myself. I found some people they need re-coding or VCDS, VAGcom, can-bus issue, etc.... on the other hand some people take only 15 -30 minutes to replace it.

My Tig is originally equipped with MDI and bluetooth. Is there any hints for me to pay extra attention before I place the order? Or should I ask someone to fix it becos i know nothing about electronic / electrical?

There is a guide to replace the RCD310 with an RNS510.

It is pretty simple except you will need a hex head screwdriver with a t20 bit to get the unit out (from memory)

I never had MDI or blutooth so i can't help with that.

    Thanks! team_v!

I am still struggling with the compatibility of existing bluetooth, MDI and AUX and MDF. I am still doing some research on it.

FWIW, my DIY installation was plug and play, with no need for VCDS re-coding.

MDI, MFD and steering wheel buttons worked fine and unchanged!

However ... whilst we have the same MY car, I upgraded from a RCD 510 and don't have bluetooth.

If you don't have VCDS, you will likely find that the unit works fine, but you won't get the Navigation screen on your MFI/MFD (which shows compass and navigation instructions). When I installed mine, all the steering wheel buttons worked for changing volume/skipping, etc (wasn't expecting it to work based on what I had read).

If you need to get a T20/T25 screwdriver, go for a magnetized one (or buy a magnetizer that'll add the feature to your current screwdriver) - last thing you want is to drop a screw inside the dash only to have it rattle when you drive).

Also remember, when you first install the RNS510, the maps might go all haywire when you first drive - don't panic, this is normal and it should correct itself as you continue driving for 10-20 minutes.

Thanks for advice! I tried to search the RNS 510 from ebay and they are usually 2nd hand or used or disassembled from other cars. Should I buy a brand new or the new ver. F from Poland (only equipped with European map at the moment). Any suggestion to which seller?

Did a quick search on Ebay - best I could find (price + map version) is here:

Volkswagen Navigation System RNS 510 V4 MAPS vw rns510 | eBay

Don't worry if a unit doesn't have Video in Motion (VIM) enabled, you can do it yourself for free by burning a CD that updates the software.

Thanks! Buddy Ryan! I have asked the seller whether it is LED version. If so, I will probably order it! Thanks again!
