Depends. A good ported 10" will get down just as low, but a sealed 10" generally does not get down to the low frequencies as well.
The driver needs to match the box in order to get the best results. Ive seen great results with a singe 6" in a box that was well designed.

10" for punch, 12" for good bass, 15" in a big box for true bass. Not practical but if you look at my build thread, there was a reason I had a long-back corolla.
