Pioneer AVH-X5650BT not powering off MK5 Golf

I'm sorry, I know there is a lot of information out there in regards to third party head units and a switched power source. So far I've tried the 12v cigarette lighter and taping into the 6th row of the internal fuse box. But neither of these worked for me. I probably only left it on for 10 minutes (without the key), was that not long enough? Somebody did just mention to me it can take around 20 minutes.

I was hoping to find someone with specific information on MK5's, I don't have MFD or steering controls (if that helps).

    Thanks in advance

Fuse number 31 solved most of the problems - although you have to have your 'reds' on for the headunit to power on, it was still much better than always on.
