    Passat B8 audio system upgrade

As title suggested, I am doing an audio system upgrade on my Passat B8 132tsi comfortline with discovery pro 8 unit. I will be installing:

    - Helix P Six amp/dsp combo
    - Focal PS165FX for fronts going active
    - A subwoofer in the trunk (DB1212)

Since my amp has both rca and high-level input, which one do I use to connect from the head unit? Do I need to do VCDS coding on the head unit? If I do, which options should I choose?

    Thank you!

If the amp has line level in you can configure the mib as if it were connected to a VW amp and see if it all plays nice.
There are additional adaptation channels which are for infotainment canbus settings which I guess won't apply in your case but if you need them let me know.
Try just coding using the vcds long coding helper and change to 'sound system' in the appropriate bytes. I think there are two applicable bytes from memory but don't quote me.

    This is one of them...
    Address 5F, long coding, byte 11 - change from 01 to 03.

Honestly I have very limited knowledge of VCDS and I don't have the cable too. So line-level input will be better than high-level input since it will send "cleaner" signal?

The factory amp for the disco pro uses an optical connection (MOST) so it's an assumption on my part that you can even enable line level out.
It can be done on the PQ platform discover media but this may not necessarily be the case on the pro...

Isn't the optical connection only available with dynaudio system upgrade that gives you separate amp? With the passat, you are stuck with stock speakers and no dynaudio option here. So I assume it does not have separate amp and the 8 speakers are just powered by the head unit. Is that correct?

You are correct in that it uses the internal 4x25w amp.
But if it is the same as the discover media (which it may well NOT be) then you can change the output from speaker level unbalanced to line level balanced with coding so that you don't need a line out converter.
    One way to find out...
