Check the picture of the nav software towards the bottom....looks much better than what we're slumming it with.

Perhaps the head unit is in fact manufactured by Matsu****a for the Korean market. Outwardly looks like the RNS510 but the guts could well be quite different to the Conti unit we've come to know and ....well we know it.

Very likely, VW has let another manufacturer use the RNS510 design and name plus added features for the Korean market. It's like the RCD510 which is made by both Bosch and Delphi (plus the mysterious RCD510+ which has iPod with direct USB built in)

It's not mysterious RCD510, it's the Delphi unit assembled in China and also has the RVC connector.

Sorry to burst your bubble guys, my supplier told me this unit is made by a Korean company called DMB, or something (I can't seem to find it on Google, getting the feeling my tech guy got the acronym wrong since he doesn't speak English). It's a pretty damned convincing exact replica of RNS-510, but it isn't an RNS-510. Although, that mirror feature is what I will be revealing on the new generation ANS units, very soon

Could you share that information?

He could be wrong about that one being a replica, but apparently Koreans are very mature with Smartphone mirroring technology so all it takes is one company with such technology to do an exact mold of the RNS-510 units. I haven't been able to find much more on that particular video but I'd only be convinced it's an RNS-510 when they show the RNS-510 interface before entering mirror mode.

The links you had showed the RNS-510 in Korea is different but there's no mention of mirroring feature. As far as I could tell, the main differences are just colour MFD and the map. The different map is probably more due to TeleAtlas and Navteq not being popular or very well known in Asia, so they more likely partnered up with a more popular local map provider that incidentally had much better software than VW can muster.

Have been in touch with the developer who claims it works with all version of the RNS510.
Obviously reserving judgement until I actually get my hands on one and use it but am remaining quietly hopeful it's not a hoax.

If I get any useful info will post it up but given its still in development they are keeping things close to their chests. Which is understandable.
