No one will help me install new CANBUS for my new RNS510!

Hi All,

as the topic states, im having trouble getting the CANBUS installed and then Re-coded. No one wants to help, includeing Derek from European Auto tech (Hes just too busy).

I have already pulled the dash apart and can physically install the RNS510, but where i need help is installing the updated CANBUS (in my possession) and then the subsequent re-coding via VAGCOM.

Right now i have the standard system installed due to the power drain issue. Will installing the new CANBUS resolve the issue straight away (without re-coding the car)? If so, im keen to do it, and then get the car VAGCOM'ed at a later date.

Does anyone know someone else in Sydney who can help. I have called about 4 dealers and they wont have any of it!! If anyone here has access to a VAGCOM and can help me out, ill pay you for your time!

Thats weird that the dealers wont help you... where did you get the CANBUS from?

I Got the CANBUS from eBay international. Its definatley the correct one but i think i should stop tellin the service centres where i have sourced the bits from. I think they are turned off when i tell them i have sourced the unit and CANBUS from O/S.

haha Yeah that would be a smart idea, just visit another dealer and tell them you bought it from the parts department. Either that, or if you've already pulled the dash, you could try google for instructions on how to change/replace the CANBUS system.

Im pretty hands on so i have just printed the CANBUS install instructions and will attempt to install it over the W/E.

My final question is, if i just go ahead and install the new CANBUS, will the power drain issue dissapear automatically? Also will my car be compromised in anyother way untill i get it coded? I realise the steering wheel controls will probably be disabled untill i hook the car to VAGCOM but what else might get affected?

As i said, id much rather install the RNS510 and CANBUS myself, put my dash back together and then go to VW to get coded.
