seems to be quite a fair bit of conflicting info about this unit:

From cozza's Pioneer contact: "Pioneer confirmed that they're only selling the unit through Auto Xtreme in QLD, and via dealerships"
JB Hi-Fi brookvale/warringah: "We do sell the product but we do have it in stock at the moment. It is also about to be replaced by a new model (yet to be confirmed)."
Andrews Car Radios: "Pioneer do not have the VW unit in Australia. They say about 6 to 10 months away possibly"

It would be great if someone could just find a PRICE so that we can gauge whether it's worth the trouble??

Auto Xtreme got back to me with the RRP:

"To supply this unit to you, the total cost will be $2995 inc GST. I can also arrange fitting of this unit, in your area for an additional $220.00 Inc."

    gawd.

edit: this shop sells the zenec for $2295, so a fairer estimate of the pioneer's price is ~$2500

For around the $2500 you can easily get yourself into the All-in-one Alpine INA-W900 including appropriate VW parts.

This is what I did to my GTI - Pic Here

ocau ftw!! (i'm chylld83 on there)

$2500 is a bit out of my budget, plus i prefer a much more factory sleeper look. your build sounds bloody impressive though - any build threads?

    hey Skitz,

just got a few questions regarding your W900

Whats the interfacing like with the W900? have you gotten all the steering wheel controls? any bugs/clitches? what happens when you select the radio through the steering wheel?

i was considering it at one stage but got put off, when started hearing stories about bugs, and other issues like when taking it to a dealer etc.

    Thanks

    Woah, $2995.

1k more for a unit, that doesnt look as good as the zenec, nor does it integrate as well.

$1800 more than a zenec. I got mine for less than $1200.
