RNS510 goes back to factory settings (have to change from German to English and setup radio presets, phone speed dials, and everything else)

But the recode he speaks of is where you have to connect your laptop to turn on the reversing camera again, and a few other things.

    Yes what Ryan R said.

Would definitely advise against upgrading without a cable.

Even if you can access one, make sure you copy or record down your long coding for module 37: Navigation before installing these FW upgrades.

Otherwise, will lose your coding for the navigation unit.

Yesterday i completed the firmware update and the maps update.
The DVD-R media was necessary instead of CD-R in order to have no swl error.
I saved the coding form 37 controller navication and from can gateway controller but no good..
I paste after the update the saved coding and had no picture from RVC and no compass and navigation
instructions on the small screen of the instruments.
So i had to deactivate navigation and RVC via VCDS and reactivate them in order everything to be operational again.

Radio text is nice but few stations here in Greece supporting it and i have to test only the POI 's if they appear or not with the
    new firmware in the map.

After installing 5218 notice couple of problems:
1 radio station defaults to 1st preset station overnight
2 map zooms out when left for couple of hours.
    Can anybody confirm that?

Could those who have successfully upgraded indicate which model (letter) RNS unit they have? i.e. I have a C model.

    Thanks

    Yes to both!

I also have the lass talking jibberish with her navigation instructions.
Can't make out exactly what she's saying. Sounds like "Dalmat" or maybe "Dummy" but under her UK accent.

The instruction usually goes along the lines of the following:

Turn left towards (or into) "Dalmat"

On the upside, I feel the unit does come up the 3 alternate routes a tad quicker than before.

Bought some Verbatim DVD+R discs this time and burnt the normal 50-25-25 4120 image in Roxio Business v10 (2.4x).

Flew through the first few steps, rebooted after the HDD step, then did the Radio step in a few seconds, and then nothing. Sat at 0% for the MPEG update for about 8 mins while the unit was silent, figured it would crash here, but no, finally finished successfully. Radio text feature is now there but can't test it since I'm in an underground car park. Lost music, maps and POI, reloading that now.

Will head down shortly and recode the unit.

Will upload the firmware to GDrive and put a link in the sticky thread.
Will consider upgrading to 5xxx when there's a 90-5-5 version available and tested. In the meantime most of my music is on SD card and the Galaxy S2 so no big problem there.

On the previous 4020 I found that the unit would zoom into 75% (from my usual 150 or 100) overnight on occasion.

so all this effort just to get "radio text"?!?!?

i'm still not seeing any other benefits of upgrading to 5xxx, from 402x.

"all this effort" = not much effort if you've got the right type of disc and a VCDS cable. Missed having radio text when I upgraded from the RCD310 2 years ago
