New to the car - RNS 510 - hidden SD card slot ?

Hi all,

Help please! I'm trying to get familiar with my RNS-510 in my 2011 Passat and not having much luck.

I've read the manual but I'm missing a few things. See screenshot below.



CD works Great start.

I can view the hard drive status and it says 39G free and zero used, so I assume I have one, yeah?

SD slot greyed out. Do I actually have a SD card slot hidden in the car somewhere or was this an option that wasn't chosen by the 1st owner? If it exists, I can't find it! If I had an SD card slot, it looks like I could copy files to my HD with that symbol I recognize from the manual.

HD greyed out because (I'm guessing) that there nothing on it? I dunno.

The bottom one in the pic is a USB stick I plugged in to (what I assume is) the MDI port. It's in the glove box, when you you pull down the hidden box in the top. There's a cable plugged in to the MDI port and I've plugged the USB stick into the other end of it. So, whatever USb thing I plug in here, it appears as a "ipod" music source?


Any general comments welcome here!

I assume you haven't inserted an SD card then? I don't think mine actually shows up until I insert it.

HDD is likely greyed out because it's empty.

As far as the slot, it's on the front of the RNS unit, towards the bottom. It doesn't say anything like SD card, but you should feel the click once you insert it.

The cable that came with the car for the MIDI will not play from an Ipod or Iphone unless a previous owner bought the proper one. There is a different cable which is about $80 from VW or $15 on Ebay.

As said an SD card wont show up if it isnt there. The slot for it is right in front of you.
