New car audio codes: black tag?

    Hi Beetles,
Got a new Golf GTI and was wondering if the black tag that came with the manuals is the pin/password for the rcd510? On one side if the tag is a 6 digit number with W as a prefix, the other side is a seven digit number. Any help?

    Cheers, S.

I know this sounds silly but ive heard that Vw doesn't give you the pin for the radio, if you need it like if your battery goes flat you have to supply the Vin No and the radio serial no which could be on those tags????

I think you only need the pin number if you're transferring the unit to another car — this has applied to VW units for several years past.

I've had my RNS510 off the circuit and had no problem when it was powered up again.
