NavSync Program for use with RNS510

    Hi All,

Has anyone had experience using VWLabs NavSync program for programming destinations and destination pictures onto an SD card for use in the RNS510. The program appears to use Google Earth satellite positioning and street-level imaging to transfer destination data from your computer, via an SD card to the RNS510. The program is in German which I could not follow to a satisfactory conclusion.
Is there an English language version? or detailed English instructions? On face value, the program looks quite useful.

    Thanks, Lowery

I know nothing about NavSynch but I would assume that it would require working 3xxx series firmware which allows uploading POI info via an SD card to the POI partition on the HDD.
This unfortunately doesnt work here in Aus due to our outdated map data which is of a format that doesnt support the upload of personal POIs.
So I would think that you'd need to wait until VW Australia eventually release some maps from this decade...

I use it for all my favourite destinations, I have 3xxx firmware, and using v4 maps, the maps work but POI on the disc don't, due to a new format being introduced with 3xxx. This doesn't bother me as my experience with POI's on other navigation units has been not so good and have just learnt to use my iPhone to find places. Places like Work, Uni, mates places I have made POI's using the website, however I did find it necessary to fine tune the coordinates saved, by opening the resulting files in TextEdit. So yeah they work well if you have firmware 3xxx, also sometimes it takes clicking on the SD card then going back, then clicking on the SD Card again for the unit to recognize it

The English version is via US website: VW Labs - Is this what the people want?

The equivalent app is called NavCompanion.

You setup a free account and it will forever load up all your saved destinations (once signed in) for syncing/transferring onto SD card.

Yep ... it's useful for saving favourite destinations or say POIs for the upcoming road trip.

Only downside is the RNS510 unit can only store about 100 destinations (from memory).

Thanks for that. I've only had the RNS510 for two weeks - VW removed a MFD2 system from my 07 Jetta and replaced it with the RNS unit. The GPS software is version 4.1 which seems very good here in Canberra, but I have no idea yet how to determine the firmware version.
I have used the VWLabs program for all of one morning and already my wife is enthusiastic about choosing from pictures to select her destinations. I found I can use any pictures: photographs, google street view, scanned from mags, etc, provided they are jpgs of about 600 x 400. Once imported into NavCompanion and synced with a destination, they appear on the RNS510 screen as thumbnails and then as full screen pictures once a selection is made. If the selection is the one you want, pressing 'start' puts the system into guidance mode and switches to map view. Cool!
I think this would be great for planning a holiday away somewhere while leaving all the home area destinations on the HDD.
