MY12 Tig - RNS510 and RVC question (no projection lines?)

Posting this on behalf of a mate of mine. Has anyone else taken delivery of a MY12 Tig - ordered with factory fitted rear view camera (RVC) - only to find out it doesn't have the advertised yellow steering-projection lines?

On top of that, the camera quality is quite blurry.

Apparently there were issues last year with the RVC components due to the Japanese tsunami. Not sure if VW applied a single alternative source for RVC to all cars, but my mate has a fairly inferior camera fitted and the dealer claims this is the OEM option that he ordered. Is the steering-projection line a feature that can be switched on, or is there a component missing between the camera at the back and the RNS510?

If anyone has more info on this or anyone facing a similar issue, I'd be keen to hear about it. Obviously waiting a significant while for a Tiguan, only to have it arrive in a condition other than advertised/claimed/paid for is pretty poor on VW's part.

Sounds like the dealer has fitted it themselves. I would be surprised if it came out of the factory like that.

i get that impression too. I had expected more of an OEM setup. i got an after market setup that works far better, so it seems the dealership has made a fair profit, seeing how much the RVC option costs. sounds dodgy to me

    Hi Aurange_Tiguan,

Like ralp2dam, I also think that the dealer fitted the RVC themselves. I was told by my dealer when ordering mine that the projection lines on dealer fitted RVC are fixed. I can't tell you about the resolution since I haven't seen any in action.

If you want to know if it was factory fitted or not... check the sticker in wheel well under the boot floor (you'll likely have to take the spare and styrofoam insert out). All the factory fitted options are on the sticker. If it's not on there then the dealer would have fitted it themselves.

To decode your option codes go to VW Group Option Codes Decoder and put the 3 digit codes in and should pop out with the factory fitted model options.

Something like this is quite possibly dealer fitted. They've probably got a vehicle with "close" spec and added the missing options.

    Good luck.

Sorry for being a bit off topic, however I'm interested in what you got as an aftermarket set up?

Hi guys - Sorry if I appear to be hijacking this thread (not intentional) but didn't really want to start a new one when there is quite a bit of info on this anyway...I currently have the MY11 147 which has the RNS510 and have been thinking of grabbing the RVC and Bluetooth kit from this guy in Ireland -- has anyone else grabbed anything from him as he's been around for a while...

    The OEM RVC is here
The OEM VW Premium Bluetooth device is here

so a couple of things I am aware that the Bluetooth kit needs to be hooked into a computer to be activated so does this need to be done by the dealer or is there somewhere else in Canberra where this can done...the dealer that fitted my towbar wiring tried to skimp out on a proper hookup and stuffed up the wiring so really don't want to go anywhere near them - and what about the RVC, are these an easy fit but from what I have read some wires need to be cut so I am presuming this also needs to be activated as well? - would welcome any tips/advice.

Also, I came across this which is the full RNS510 system with GPS - are these just a straight swap-over apart from securing a few things under dash (gps antenna etc) OR are there major mods required...from what I can see/read its pretty straight forward but then again...

Also, on the MY11 147 where does the mic go for the BT device or is it inbuilt?

    thanks for any further tips

I got a Zenec headunit and reverse camera, as per my sig. The camera clarity is superior - at least compared to what my mate's dealership claims as OEM.

Hi - I was doing a bit of sniffing around trying to find out further info on RVC for my tiggy (see my post a couple above this) and come a cross a site that stated there were 2 types of VW RVCs - a premium one that has the yellow steering projection lines and a standard version that doesn't - hope that helps
