    MY12.5 Polo GTI: Speaker removal/reattachment

    Hi guys,

First of all, sorry if this has been posted somewhere else before, but searching the forums/googling didn't get me anywhere.

I bought a bulk pack of Dynamat which I plan to put into all 4 doors of my MY2012.5 Polo GTI. I took the door trim off today and then I saw it: The speakers are attached with rivets, not screws. Since I am not that experienced with these things, here are my questions:

    1. Is the only way to remove them drilling them out? If not, what other options do I have?
    2. After applying Dynamat, how do I reattach the speakers? Do I need to use rivets again or can I use screws? If rivets, what size and what tools do I need?

Any quick help would be much appreciated! Really wanna get as much as possible done tomorrow (Sunday).

    Thanks!

Hi mate, yes drilling the rivets out is the only option. You can use the bolts and nuts or you can rivet them back on. You can buy a cheap riveting pliers with the rivets for around $15 from Bunnings.

You should throw up some pictures and maybe a how to for those also thinking of changing speakers/installing sound mats as there's not much on here for this topic.

Thanks guys. Went and bought a drill, drill bits and a rivet gun with rivets from Bunnings today. Got as far as drilling/hammering the rivets out. It's my first time so everything takes forever...

Will post more once I find the time and manage to finish everything!
