    my retro esky swap

just had a brain explosion while thinking about in car entertainment

what always stopped me from running a subwoofer in my car was having ugly stick-out-like-dogs-balls sub box sitting in your boot, well, i had a thought about all the things i usually keep in my boot that doesnt look like a black carpeted POS..... thats where i thought and esky Sub woofer box would look pretty cool

some pics of the retro eski i will be cutting up for a sub

as you can see its double layer'd so my mission is to have the sub bolted to the inner skin and use the outer skin as a cover plate with drilled out holes, the only problem is i have to work out how i will attatch the speaker grill back onto the esky, an amp will also be bolted to the inner wall on the opposite side of the esky just to hide the amp aswell

here is a photoshop of how it will look like without the esky speaker grill, the esky will then be screwd into the floor hiding the subwoofer against the boot wall....

just waiting on a mate to give back my old subby he borrowed and get started....

edit: just come up with a idea on how to keep the outer skin intact while mounting the sub:

ill cut the inner hole to the size of the sub and screw the sub in from the inside on the innser skin, then ill measure exactly where the sub is sitting on the outside and drill speaker grills on the outser skin, keeping the outside skin intact...

the birds eye view shows the red screws bolting the sub inside out

also the outside with all the speaker holes..... sorry for the crappy paint shop picture but thats the idea

Sealed - you'll blow the lid off! POrted? Another hole to drill and fill.

    How appropriate is the volume.

Tell me this is a urination extraction exercise.

    hahahahah

well im not chasing big volume, ive got a pretty good headunit ill be using, 4 alpine type S's and a 5 channel amp, just need to get the subby back

also its got a pretty tight latch on the lid so it wont pop the lid off, and i dont know if ill port the box or not

ha ha.... very good... I suppose if it's vented that the natural air movement will move some hot air out...
