    My budget stereo build

After much though and planning I’ve started my budget stereo build on the mk1 GLS.

My main focus is on making it look as neat and standard as possible and at the same time having a respectable system without going to much over $500.

To keep costs down I’m only buying components that are discounted or on 'mates rates'.

    The plan is:
Jaycar Responce Precision Kevlar 6" splits for the front
Jaycar Responce Precision Kevlar 6.5" coaxial with dome tweeter for the rear
SONY XPLOD CDXGT710 Head unit hidden away (its an '08 model that has been referbed, cheapest I could find with 3 RCA outs)
I’m not sure of the specs of the following components as I haven’t seen them yet:
    BOSS 1000wat 4 channel amp
    12" Pioneer sub
    Sony (I think) mono block

    2 awg power wire
    mk2 gti 70amp alt
    2 awg Big3 upgrade
Dynamat in the doors, not doing the boot.

The front speakers will be mounted in fibreglass mounts that I bought from Autobahn made by DNA audio. The door cards have already been cut so I’m going to cover it up with the fibreglass mount and this will allow me to fit 6" splits and keep it looking fairly neat and factory like.

I don't want to destroy the rear 1/4 panel cards or the parcel shelf so i will be re-making a set of custom 1/4 panels I pulled of a wreak.

The boot will be made to look like floor boards and I’m still on the fence about a trap door for access to the wheel well. If all the amps and other gear fit in there then I will do it, if not then I have no need for it as I cant fit a big a$$ spare on the car anyway.

The sub box will be a surprise.

A few pics of the progress so far.

DNA Audio fibreglass mounts being sprayed to match. Thanks for the help dad!

The rear speaker mounts for the 1/4 cards being recovered in a matching colour. (Thats in the shed btw, not my house.)

Im a bit shiz at this build thread stuff. With such little time I just get on a roll and forget to take pics of the progress.

These pics don't depict the 3 full days of work ive put it. That includes moding the center console and painting it which was a masive pain in the butt and finger as i cut myself to the bone!
I wanted to do everything properly with no short cuts, so i did.....and it took ages! It didnt help that i have a cold aswell.

I striped the car and cleaned the carpets with a carpet cleaner and vacumed everything.

The front speakers are all done and work great. They are loud enough to make your ears ring and still remain clear, so im prity happy. Im still trying to work out what to do with the window winders.

Still a way to go untill its complete. I have to upgrade the Big3, the alt, relay the head lights, and finish off the rear 1/4 panels and install the rear speakers.
Oh and ive given in, im going to run the T5 Tarantula @ 1000 RMS watts!!! HA!

Ill get more pics tomorrow of the finished product.

Massive thanks to my lil bro for all his help.

If the door cards wernt dirty the color would match.

Its been cleaned up a bit now but i dont care as you dont see it.

I had a hard time tuning it up properly and with help from a very knowledgeable mate we got it prity spot on. It sounds great, nice and clear. I just need a sub to even it all out as split speakers are only designed for high freq.

There is a slight issue though, when it is on low volume you can hear russling. Im going to move the splits closer to the speakers and hopefully that will sort it out.
