music not cutting out during gps instructions

Only had the car 2 weeks. I am sure the music and radio used to switch off when the navigation instructions were given, I can remember setting the volume for the radio and a higher volume for voice navigation... My daughter said she was playing with the settings last week and she might have altered something... Is there a setting to turn this feature on and off somewhere in the RNS510?

Reading the manual would be a good start as it covers how this works.

It doesn't mute the music or radio either by default it just lowers the volume.

You can adjust it under tones and set the sat nav, bluetooth, audio and so on volumes. There may also be a setting under setup/navigation.

RTFM LOL... Strange, I just had a hands free phone kit installed today and that works fine ,,, the radio cuts out as soon as I dial or receive a call... I will chek the manual tomorrow though..

It's a different thing entirely when it mutes for hands free - that's an external signal on either the CANBUS or a specific mute pin that tells the RNS510 to go into call mode. As Mav says, the manual shows how to alter the volume when nav instructions are given.

yes.. there's a setting in RNS510 that you can use to change the volume of the music when navigation voice is spoken...

try the SETUP button... if i get to my car later, i'd do some video clip for you

the easy way is just setup a route to somewhere and when the direction is
being spoken just adjust the volume

you will see a green or blue bar across the screen and that is the volume
for the voice. Another easy way to get the voice up is press the i button
    to repeat last command

This is true, but there are a couple of things that should be pointed out:

    1. The OP was talking about the music volume reduction, not the nav direction volume. This is a completely different setting.
    2. On newer RNS510s or those firmware upgraded to support voice control, there is either a) no "i" button (newer hardware) or b) it no longer provids that function (upgraded firmware). On these RNS510s, pressing the right hand rotary volume style knob will repeat the last navigation instruction.

It reduces the music volume enough, and i find it much less obtrusive than muting it all together. As mentioned you can change the voice instruction volume which is fairly similar relative to the volume of the music, and adjust this easily while they are talking tothe desired level.
