MKVI GTI Sat Nav advice?

Hi all,

I am not very technically minded and am not sure I am making sense of the previous posts regarding bluetooth and sat nav?

I am ordering a MKVI GTI i with sat nav, but only want to sat nav if my phone can integrate with it including my address book etc.

Is this possible? What else besides the sat nav kit do i need to order to make this happen?

The sales guys at the dealers have no idea......

Any help would be appreciated.

Yes you can have that feature, BUT it costs.

You need VW's Premium Bluetooth kit which is $1980 I believe.
This is on top of the money you're paying for the RNS510 sat nav unit. It isn't cheap.

Funny thing is i have a $100 supertooth unit that integrates with everythign bar the display.

for iPhone forget about any useful integration with anything though..

I'd recommend getting the OEM Skoda Integrated bluetooth kit (different from the one you listed?)

Places like European Autotech & Harding Performance can supply and fit these for around the $1500 mark I think, and integrates perfectly.

I got an iphone and it works perfectly with the bluetooth kit I just mentioned.

You really have to research the out after market gear to make sure everything will work properly. I had a full Alpine system but wasn't happy with the bluetooth or navigation and couldn't get it working with the iPhone.

You can get a Fiscon unit that is the simplest / cheapest to install that provides full integration with both the RNS510, the MFD and also with iPhone. There are various places around that will supply and install it for you, or you can purchase for about $700 or $800 and fit yourself - it's mostly plug and play, takes about 1/2 hour to an hour to fit, although you will need someone with a laptop and the special cable / software to tell the car that it has been fitted. Lots of people on here in most major cities in Oz that have the cable / software, and a heap of people with the Fiscon Bluetooth fitted.

The alternative is to get the Skoda Bluetooth unit, similar price, more OEM install and integration, it can access an iPhone's call lists where the Fiscon can't (although both can access address book), but a little harder to install. As G-rig says, this can be installed by various after-market fitters too.

I have RNS510, Skoda Bluetooth, MDI and iPhone, and the result is brilliant. Complete integration, across the phone, stereo, MFD. Works very well.

This is a winning combo, i have the exact same stuff (so does Mav minus the MDI) and very happy with the integration, ease of use, MFD display etc).

Integrated Parrot bluetooth with gps and an OEM finish.
An RNS-510 clone with extra bits included for about half the price.

Using the terminology of "clone" would suggest that's in exact copy which could be misleading. Whilst Zenec units look better and do integrate nicer they still suffer from some of the problems that seem to plague the waywell units.

Last time I checked the pricing was close to $3000 for the Zenec, the RNS 510 can be picked up for $1200-$2000 and when add on the skoda BT and the MDI it doesn't come to much more plus you get full integration into the car.

Zenec ZE-NC2010 units are sold at 900 Pounds which is about $1600 (plus $100 or so for postage) with integrated bluetooth and added extra's.
The new model has full updated can-bus integration and so far there hasn't been any reports that I have found on severe faults.

The Zenec Unit also comes with MDI and bluetooth as part of the package as well as extra options like USB connection for external hardrive use and other nice bits (integrated 4x50W amp and divx capability i believe)


It may not be as proper as the RNS-510 but it is comparable in price and so far there hasn't been any major issues with the new model (NC2010)
