    mk5 gti head unit swap

my son has just purchased a mk5 gti and as usual i am his head mechanic. it appears it has the rcd500 head unit fitted, so doesn't possess an aux outlet. i have tried to get my head around the threads here but end up with brain overload. what is the easiest process to end up with head unit with an aux. is the rcd510 the easiest path, or an after market head uniy, but with after market units, how do you get around the fascia plate?
    cheers

RCD510+ is the best, it has USB out of the box with no need for an MDI unit and it's well priced. The colour touch screen brings up the look of the car quite a bit too.

Ps. If its older than a MY07 there may be some compatibility issues

Hi ericcs....you will need a adapter for the aerial as 07 will have two and RCD will have a twin....and your CANBUS gateway will be too old...from 2008 on the gateway is ok as its version L and above and works with RNS RCD units but 07 will have battery drain issues if your CANBUS is lower than L....VDUB...

i have found these adapters that plug into the external changer port, but some of the sellers say they are not compatible with the inbuilt 6 stackers, while others say the do. does the inbuilt 6 stacker model have an output for the external stacker, therefore having the free port?
has anyone fitted one of these adapters?
