Hi Guys,
Bit of a long shot but I figure I may as well post it. I have a 1997 mk3 VR6 and the last owner has installed an aftermarket alarm and immobilizer system (albeit in an extremely dodgy way by hacking the wiring to bits). I am getting power to the constant 12v power supply for the radio but not to the ignition reliant supply (yes, even when the ignition is on). So I pulled the dash to bits and figured out which was the ignition power supply wire and found out that it has been cut in two and wired down into a long loom that is a dead end. Both have female splade fitting at the end.
I tried hooking up the two splade fittings with a spare wire and fired up the ignition. 12V came through to the radio end of the ignition power supply wire (Success!!). But an alarm (not a full blown car alarm but one emitting from the immobilizer systems black control box) fired up and does not stop until you break the radios ignition power supply circuit.
Don't know if anyone has heard of this before but any advice would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks,
Max
