    Mib3

As the VW group is now fitting the latest media system - MIB3 - to the vehicles, I have started this new tread.

Question to anyone who would know - Has anyone in Australia/New Zealand managed to activate the TMC on the MIB3 Discover/Discover Pro ?
From what I am reading the MIB3 is using online traffic information, not FM radio like the previous generation models. This is likely why I can't find any detail under 5F Control Units (using OBD11) to apply.

2nd question - Map display (Discover) is not showing speed limits imbedded from the map data, not talking traffic sign detection, is this normal now ? Fixed, needed to activate a box in the navigation settings that was hidden because I didn't scroll down.

    Wireless Android Auto

Trying to connect two like phones to the Discover MIB3 via the wireless Android Auto. The owners instructions are very short on information - first connect via USB cable and then it should be right!!!!!

One phone connected instantly without needing to connect the USB cable but the other would only connect via the cable. Looked through both phone's settings and they matched. Could not work how to sort this....then went into the developer mode on the Android Auto app on the phone and found the trick.

To connect your phone to Android Auto wirelessly enable developer mode on the phone app
    - open app - go to settings (the 3 lines on the left side). Go down to Version and tap this a few time until developer mode is activated.
Back on the setting screen the 3 x dots on the right top corner - tap that which will give you developer settings.
Then you need to tick the following boxes:
    -Add wireless projection to settings
    -Force debug logging
    -Unknown sources

I tested a Skoda my mother eventually bought and didn't need to connect via a cable first. I probably have most of those settings already from playing with my wireless Android Auto box.

Map updates will be interesting on the MIB 3. Does yours have no inputs for cards or CD/DVD?

Yep, nothing but a blank box in the glove box now.
Still trying to workout how map updates will happen.

It's funny, I have songs loaded in my hard drive, which is really small add I have the SF card slots and CD/DVD going unused but I'm glad they are there as options. All my music is streamed through AA, and wirelessly thank goodness.

I have heard you"should" be able to update maps via the front USB ports, yours should be USB C?

I'll have to work it out for my mother when she gets her car and I'll check out the MIB 3 system more.

Wont be for a while from what I can see on other forums as in Europe they have Sims (or similar) in them and do it all through the airwaves and they havent worked out how us poor colonials will be able to do it.
Even in the MIB 2 the speed information was not always correct due to the format the maps here are in.
They differ from Euro maps and dont have the same info embedded in them.

As discussed previously I still get phantom speeds in my area that have been upgraded for years so must be some data there but it is old and incorrect

    MIB3 Map updates

    2021 MIB3 Discover in a T-Roc (Australian market).
So the Australian market does not use over the air updates yet, therefore navigation map updates need to be downloaded from the VW app-connect map site Volkswagen Map Updates
You then need to load this data to a USB-C device, place it into the front USB-C slots and leave it to update your system.
Once updated the system information screen will display the new version.

On face value it appears like a simple process - so followed directions to the letter via these instructions - https://app-connect.volkswagen.com/m...er_2020_EN.pdf
Checked each day for the pass week and still on the original version:

Checked again today (after a week of the USB device sitting in the slot) to find this:

So the system works. Just need to be patient with it and not expect it to work immediately like the previous versions of MIB updates.

Worked for me, thank you Flipper Dog. I had to learn patience

I plugged the USB drive in on Saturday morning, used the car probably twice over the weekend (we mainly used my wifes A4 this last weekend), and this morning when I got to work I checked and the nav version had incremented from 20.3 to 21.2
    Cheers

I had my vehicle at the dealership yesterday for a minor thing. While it was there, they updated the MIB3 system software to 0278 (at my request). Map version remained at 21.2

Doc did you mention TPI 2062880/2 for the update or did you just ask if there was any updates?
