Hi guys

I picked up a new Tiguan Life last year - I absolutely love the car (aside from some disappointing interior rattles).

One area I'm not so happy about is the sound quality of the stock audio system. The speakers sound very sharp and cutting in high frequencies, and the bass causes the doors to vibrate. I'm listening to pop and classic rock (and some orchestral music)... nothing that should cause excessive door vibrations. However songs like Paradise Circus (Massive Attack), Buzzcut Season (Lorde) and If I Ever Feel Better (Phoenix) are all good examples of tracks which cause hideous door vibrations. The entire door trim seems to vibrate either with the kick drum or the bass part.

This is not something I've encountered before in a VW... my previous Golf (7) was super tight and sounded great with the factory audio setup. Back in the 90s, this was more the kind of thing you'd hear in a Honda or a Subaru... cars which (back then) used plastic parts in the doors and didn't seem to be designed with acoustics in mind.

So. I am on the lookout for some nice new speakers (woofers and tweeters for the front... the back can stay as it is), and also some door treatment... a combination of absorbent materials and perhaps some work to eliminate the vibrating components themselves.

I've been to Metrosound in Artarmon... have long been a fan of their work. But they are just too expensive. I'm sure the work would be incredible, but right now I'm not in a position to spend thousands of dollars to solve this problem.

I'd be grateful if anyone could recommend a really great car audio specialist. I'm looking for someone who will be careful and meticulous... for example, if any of the little clips break when they are removing the door panels, I'd like them replaced with original parts. And of course I'm after someone who won't scratch the door interior fittings when they remove and reinstall them.

If you know a really great car audio specialist, ideally somewhere in Sydney's north, I'd be really keen to hear your recommendation and the experience you had.

Thanks guys!

Cheers
Mike
