I would use the top one then, it plugs in to the AV input (like my one) I had to wire a switch to mine to over ride the cut out as you start moving - I use my iPhone for videos and video podcasts, generally quality is not too bad, you have to use the Apple AV cable, the advantage of that is you can disconnect the USB charger and get rid of the alternator whine. Of course you could get the one I've got, then you know it'll work...!

So to install the switch, did you need to cut into existing wires. Where do the three wires shown on your unit connect too?

I followed a link that doesn't seem to be there now, basically there are three wires, one is for video in motion, the other is for video while parked. You wire these two into the switch and then the red one goes to the power, the other wire from the box is the earth. At least that the way I think I did it - the switch comes with instructions though and it wasn't really that hard...

Hi, off topic. BUT I NEED SRS HELP!

As i see you also have a DVD based MFD2. Is your GPS working? If so does the CD version of maps work on the DVD unit? And where would i be able to find either to CD/DVD version of aus maps?

Google them and you'll find them. And yes the CD version works on the DVD unit.

You still need to install a video/audio source for both of these. The difference between the two is that the first device plugs into the CD changer aux video/audio input and the other appears to use other inputs on the main square plug.

I am trying to find out if there are any advantages/disadvantages between the two. I most likely would be connecting a video ipod, mainly for music but the occasional movie/music video etc. I know the quality most probably will not be the best but do not expect DVD quality etc..
Thanks pretty much what I do, use an iPhone as a media centre, it will play ripped movies, music, podcasts, picture slide shows, even stuff streamed from the net - as long as it uses the Quicktime API, it will output thru the Apple cable to the Sat Nav. The video improved lately when I fitted a new battery - go figure!

Macad, just to clarify, does this interface plug into the AUX plug on the back of the MFD2 or the CD changer plug (like the VW ipod connector)??

So to use this, you select AUX on the MFD2 correct?

Sorry to be a pain, I just want to order the correct one this time to use my iphone as you do....

Yep, plugs into the back with is solely for the AV/Aux which is accessed from the button on the front of the MFD2 - I still have the CD changer working in the armrest.

The trick I found was to NOT to recharge the iPhone while using video thru AV - reduced alternator whine greatly. Send me your email if you need any more info - I'm not on here much usually over on the Australian section of the Golfmkv forum.
