    MFD2 (DVD Based) Aux Input

    Hi All,

    After a bit of help...

I have the MFD2 C (DVD Based) Sat Nav in my car with the OEM 6 Disc CD Changer in the glovebox.

I would like the option of an AUX Input.

In my centre console (Armrest) there is a "BLANK" where the newer model Passats have the "AUX IN". I would like to "retrofit" this "AUX IN" into my vehicle.

Only catch, I still want to be able to use the 6 Disc CD Changer...

    So here are my options, what are your thoughts on which will work the best;

OEM Parts: - 1Q0971656 MP3 AUX IN HARNESS (from back of head unit) / 5M0035724 AUX IN SOCKET (to replace black plate in the armrest)
I like this option as I can use a 3.5mm to ipod connector for better quality sound from my ipod. the above parts are what is now offered in 2008+ Passats, so I can only assume that this harness will connect into the back of my MFD2 and still allow the CD Changer to function also.

    Kufatec: http://www.kufatec.de/shop/product_i...FD2--RNS2.html
I also like this option as I can use a 3.5mm to ipod connector for better quality sound from my ipod. This looks like what the OEM setup is like.

    Line In Adaptor: http://cgi.ebay.com/AUX-Line-IN-adap...item19b46df744
This option will only allow me to use the 3.5mm headphone out from my ipod. Poorer Sound Quality?

Not really looking at other options such as Dension / MDI etc.

Looking for a basic way to get more flexability out of my system.

Ok, so what are your thoughts / experiences...

    ...So no help?

    I have found the following;

    OEM Parts: - 1Q0971656 MP3
AUX IN HARNESS (from back of head unit) / 5M0035724 AUX IN SOCKET (to replace black plate in the armrest)
I like this option as I can use a 3.5mm to ipod connector for better quality sound from my ipod. the above parts are what is now offered in 2008+ Passats, so I can only assume that this harness will connect into the back of my MFD2 and still allow the CD Changer to function also.

This will work, however I can not keep the 6 Disc CD Stacker. No Good!

I also like this option as I can use a 3.5mm to ipod connector for better quality sound from my ipod. This looks like what the OEM setup is like.

I am waiting for Drew Stibbards from Northfield Moorooka to get back to me in relation to the above.

Maybe Dension is the only answer; but once again, you can only use one or the other...

    Any other thoughts guys.

I installed this adaptor in my GTI

    http://cgi.ebay.com.au/VW-MFD2-RNS2-...ht_2095wt_1167

this was fine for the iPod, however it needed a ground loop isolator as it was picking up alternator whine.

I now have this adaptor in place to allow video in from my iPhone

    http://cgi.ebay.com.au/AV-MULTIMEDIA...ht_2374wt_1167

this works okay, but the video quality is not 100% and I've still got a small amount of alternator whine. If you want to do video you'll have to get the Apple TV cable as well...

    Cheers, paul

Do these adaptors that plug into the aux port allow you to have the navigatio/map running at the same time as playing music from the ipod from the aux input??

Yep, you can choose the Aux input as the audio selection that will play will the Nav is in use. Works just like the Radio/CD.

    Hi Guys,

Slightly off topic but, just wondering if you want to add TV free to you Aux in, which is a better way of doing this. Adding a device like this one:

    http://cgi.ebay.com.au/DVD-TV-Multim...item48399f7af6

    or one like this:

TV Free Freischaltung VW AUDI RNS2 RNS 510 RNSE RNS-E - eBay Kabelbäume, Autoelektrik, Auto-Ersatz- -Reparaturteile, Auto Motorrad Teile. (end time 16-Jun-10 22:44:04 AEST)

It seems the first one plugs into the aux-video/audio input of the 6cd changer for the RNS2 and the other uses the main connection plug.

Is there an advantage of using one over the other. Also does any one know of one that excepts more than one audio/video input other than a camera input. Thanks for your replies.

From what I can see, yes, you an add a DVB tuner - the difference between this adaptor and the one I use is it has a separate input for a camera, however does it do video in motion? and the DVB tuner is going to be expensive.

The bottom one, don't know what that does - I assume it's a tuner but seems a bit cheap - how are you going to tune it by the way?

Personally I don't see the point of watching Free TV, it's pretty crap at the best of time! That of course is just my humble opinion!

Actually by 'TV Free' I mean 'Video in Motion'. That term seems to be used by the Europeans. Both the items shown only provide the Video in Motion function. You still need to install a video/audio source for both of these. The difference between the two is that the first device plugs into the CD changer aux video/audio input and the other appears to use other inputs on the main square plug.

I am trying to find out if there are any advantages/disadvantages between the two. I most likely would be connecting a video ipod, mainly for music but the occasional movie/music video etc. I know the quality most probably will not be the best but do not expect DVD quality etc..
