    media in USB

    Hi All

Picking up my new jetta in a couple of weeks and would like to know if the media in device uses a standard USB cable to connect a memory stick or is is a special VW cable. And if anyone has used USB to play music, what is the quality like.
    Thanks DanF

Are you specifically getting the MDI with the USB plug?

From what I understand if your using the MDI unit you can have a stock USB plug which will then play MP3's. Being that it's decoding on the fly I would expect the quality to be the same as playing them off an MP3 CD.

The MDI is a freebie as I was quoted price before locating a vehicle, and the salesman told me he would give me an ipod cable. As I am probably one of the few people left in the world that don't own or want to own an ipod I thought I could just use the USB as the literature says both can be used.

From what I understand the MDI unit has a special socket which you get adaptors for, one is for an iPod, one is just a USB plug. Basically you would have to buy the alternative adaptor, but if the dealer is nice he may just let you swap it for the one you want

It comes standard with the USB cable.

Minor correction - it SHOULD come standard with the USB cable. It has been known to happen where the dealers don't supply them and try to charge for them. The MDI kit as installed though comes supplied with the USB cable adapter, so if they don't give it to you then jump up and down a little!
