this is the case generally with dealers, they do not know much and as they are the being backed by the "brand" in way of employment most people believe what they say.

To be fair to the dealers they won't know about SDHC working as headunits with the revised firmwares won't have come through yet and the dealers don't pay people to sit around and watch the forums and play with cars.

I'm a 7/09 build MY10 Tiguan with factory RNS510, manual printed 14/4/09 (English 5/09) and agree - says it will take a 32GB SDHC but only 2GB SD. Don't have anything bigger than 2GB to test it tho'.

Dealer gave me my own map DVD and I wouldn't have expected anything less. What you're hearing sounds pretty shonky to me.

As noted above, the DVD cover expressly states its 'authorised for one nav system only' - I'd b asking to see the dealer's DVD cover too! - although the same warning is NOT on the DVD itself. Fine print round the outside only says it can't be loaded into a retrieval system etc etc, which is a different sort of a restriction.

Wink RNS 510 AFTER Firmware update

Hey guys upadted to the new firmware and everything is fine.

But very confused on the following; it is supposed to have upgraded your SD to be able to read up to 32g. Well I put in my 8g with my mp3tunes and no go but it reads my 4g (with mp3tunes) no problem. Is there somewhere that you are supposed to turn this feature on?

    Any advise is really appreciated

So when does the dealer service department learn about it? When a customer complains or even politely asks the question? In my business I like to think I am up to date with what is happening in my industry and it would be nice to think that the automotive industry is somewhat similar.

Wouldn't it be logical that someone issues the dealers withtech notes or something similar when the upgrades are available? And just as logical that there is someone in the dealership who has the responsibility for reading and disseminating that information?

How would the service guys ever know that the RNS510 can read a 32Gb SDHC card if they don't READ about it somewhere or have someone bring it to their notice.

It's a bit hard to tell just by looking at the card slot in the RNS510.
You know you are getting old when you cancel your order for a 3.6 CC and buy an Icelandic Gray TDI CC instead.

I took delivery of my new Tiguan in November 09 and my user manual also states that i should be able to use a 32Gb SDHC card. Well, I couldn't. My dealer also told me that I can not have the maps DVD as they only have one copy in the shop. I sent an email to VW Australia and basically got a reply asking ME why I didn't receive the DVD. A few weeks later my dealer sent me the DVD in the mail. I since updated to FW 2660 myself after asking the dealer and the service manager for the update. No one even heared about the new FW. I can now use 32GB SDHC cards. I will try and get voice going next.
